Gokyo Valley & Everest Base Camp Trekking via Cho-La Pass, an adventure around picturesque areas of high Khumbu valley. Adventure around hidden pockets away from the main trail of Everest to scenic Gokyo valley and its beautiful glacial lakes.  
 
The Gokyo valley is a summer pasture for yaks and other cattle, enclosed between giant peaks of Everest and Cho-Oyo. Gokyo is a scenic valley with two main passes Cho-La and Renjo-La that lead to Everest base camp and Thame village. 
 
A magnificent place to experience in the close shade of towering snow peaks that reflects on its serene lakes. Gokyo valley provides various scenic view-points, the most popular is Gokyo-Ri at 5,357 m high offers a stunning mountain panorama. Includes views of the world’s four highest peaks from Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Mt. Cho-Oyu to Mt. Makalu in the east. Facing an array of peaks with grand scenery of Gokyo valley and its lakes with Ngozumba, the longest glacier of Nepal.    
 
Gokyo Valley & Everest Base Camp Trekking via Cho-La Pass begins with an exciting flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. Landing at Tenzing Hillary Airport in Lukla, to start our wonderful adventure heading due north towards our major highlights. The walk leads to lovely farm villages adorned with Buddhist monuments of great cultural and religious interest. Trek starts on a pleasant trail with a few ups and down following the Dudh Kosi River and crossing several bridges.
 
As the walk progresses then enter Sagarmatha National Park, designated as a world heritage site in 1979, which includes the world’s highest peaks. The park is enriched with flora and fauna, walk leads on a river gorge covered in lovely coniferous forest. Lined with tall rhododendron, pines, and fir trees and then heading higher towards famed Namche Bazaar, the capital of Khumbu. 
 
Spending two nights at Namche Bazaar, the main center of Khumbu Sherpa’s as well as trekkers. Namche houses many good hotels and lodges with banks and shops a perfect spot for a rest day to support acclimatization. From Namche adventure continues towards our first destination, as the route diverts heading north to beautiful Gokyo valley. 
 
On leaving the main trail a steep climb leads to Mong Hill, facing a superb panorama of snow peaks. Includes views of Everest and majestic Ama Dablam, and then down to Dudh Kosi River, as walk progress with uphill. Then entering a deep gorge covered in a lovely forest, as walk heads to Dole a small settlement. The adventure continues to enter a wide-open area with grand views of Mt. Cho-Oyu then heading closer to Gokyo valley. 

The walk leads past Luza, Machhermo, and Tanga to reach our destination at the third main lake of Gokyo. The lake is close to Gokyo also called Dudh Kund, a beautiful spot surrounded by an array of peaks. At Gokyo with time to explore its scenic viewpoint, where early morning climb takes you on top Gokyo-Ri. 
 
A perfect hilltop for acclimatization and good exercise before heading towards Cho-La Pass, Gokyo-Ri offers a grand vista of peaks. Overlooking tremendous panorama of the high country with an array of giant peaks that surrounds the scenic hilltop. After an enjoyable time at Gokyo valley and its beautiful lakes, our next adventure takes you to cross Cho-La Pass. 

An exciting adventure traversing from Gokyo Valley towards famous Everest Base Camp, climb leads to steep haul over rocky path. Then finally reaching on top of high Cho-La Pass after a strenuous climb, but worth the effort. The top of the pass offers incredible views of Cholatse, Nirekha, and Lobuche peaks as far as Cho-Oyu. On completing one of the main highlights of the adventure, the walk leads towards our final destination at Everest base camp.

After crossing over Cho-La pass, the rest of the walk makes you feel at ease as well as getting fully acclimatized. From the base of Cho-La pass at Dzongla walk leads to join the trail towards Everest base camp. Feel the difference between the least visited area of Gokyo and the main route of Everest, where walking gets easier. Along with the altitude after gaining much experience reaching high elevation at Gokyo-Ri and Cho-La. Continue to walk to the famous Everest base camp, where the route leads over rocky moraine and glacier to stand beneath Mt. Everest.

An exciting moment on reaching the major highlights of the adventure, standing on the foot of the world’s highest mountain range. Enjoy the glorious scenery of massive Khumbu Icefall and glaciers surrounded by giant towering peaks of Lhotse and Nuptse.   

The return journey back to Lukla, with a final climb on top Kalapathar Hill the highest spot of the adventure. From high Kalapathar enjoy a breathtaking panorama of the snow-mountain range with Mt. Everest at its closest distance. On achieving our main highlights, then head downhill on the main scenic trail and back into green vegetation and tree lines. A pleasant walk spending overnights at Pheriche and at scenic Tengboche with ample time for a tour of its famous monastery. 

Slowly adventure takes you to the end of the trek at Lukla town for the last overnight stop around high Khumbu. From Lukla, a scenic flight brings you to Kathmandu, where our adventure to Gokyo Valley & Everest base camp trekking via Cho-La concludes. 

Important Note

Trip Itinerary

On arrival at Kathmandu, Nepal international airport, our guide and staff receives you with warm welcome, and then a short drive to your hotel located in the hub of Kathmandu city. After checking into your nice rooms, with refreshing rest and then meet members for Gokyo Valley and Everest base camp trek via Cho-la pass, our guide will provide briefing with information regarding the trek, local lodge on route, culture and sightseeing tour around Kathmandu heritage sites. Evening enjoy a group welcome dinner in a typical Nepali restaurants includes folk cultural program as entertainment along with dinner. 

A free day in Kathmandu, allowing members to get familiarized with local cultures, as well for trek preparations. On this day enjoy guided sightseeing tour at places of interest, our guide takes you around historical and cultural places listed in World Heritage Sites. After a wonderful day visiting places of great historical and cultural wonders, then back to the hotel for final preparation to Gokyo valley & Everest base camp via Cho-La trekking. 

As per the time for Lukla flight, depart from the hotel for short transfer to Kathmandu domestic airport, after checking in through security then board in a small aircraft for short flight to Lukla, 
during air borne enjoy grand panorama of Himalayan chain of peaks with view of Mt. Everest.

After 35 minutes landing at Lukla at Tenzing - Hillary airport, from Lukla our adventure begins heading towards our overnight stop at Phakding village. From Luka a few hour walk on pleasant trail through several Sherpa villages adorned with Buddhist monuments lined with prayer walls and rows of spinning wheels. The day ends on reaching at Phakding in the comfort of a nice cozy lodge close to Dudh Kosi River.


The morning after breakfast, today’s walk takes you to the famous Namche Bazaar, quite a long day trek due to altitude gain. Leaving Phakding walk starts on nice gentle up following Dudh Kosi River upstream, crossing bridges towards Monjo village close to Sagarmatha National Park.

From Monjo village enter Sagarmatha National Park. Where route leads to cross over a bridge towards the last village of Jorsalle. After a brief rest or for a lunch stop, afternoon walk on river bed covered with rhododendron and pine tree forest. As the walk continues then climb to cross the last bridge before Namche Bazaar, rewards with lovely views of Kwangde peaks, on a clear day view of Mt. Everest can be seen on a walk to Namche Bazaar.

After a few hours of steady climb on a winding path then reaching Namche Bazaar, one of the largest villages almost the size of a town here for two overnight stops with rest days.

A full day at Namche Bazaar a place with various facilities the streets are lined with well-stocked stores and shops with many good restaurants, café’, banks and ATM facilities. 
Enjoy grand view of Kwangde and Tharmasarku, after breakfast take a short hike to support acclimatization, before heading towards higher ground.

Namche Bazaar a perfect height at 3,440 m for rest day, an options for walks above Namche Bazaar visit the museum close to park headquarter, offers grand view of Everest and Ama Dablam with array of peaks. For energetic people can take a hike to Everest View Hotel for best views of Everest, and visit Khumjung and Khunde village. 

After an enjoyable time at Namche, morning starts on scenic trail walk for few hours, and then our route diverts with climb up to Mong hill top, on leaving the main busy trail. Mong hill top a place with few small shops, offers views of Tharmasarku, Kongde with Ama Dablam peaks.

From here descend to Phortse Tenga, situated on the bank of Dudh Kosi River in a gorge covered within dense forest of rhododendron, fir and pine trees. At Phortse Tenga for possible lunch stop, afternoon walk continue with climb leaving the river to enter a lovely woods then end the day on reaching at Dole for overnight stop. 

Dole a nice small area behind rocky towering cliff and Snow Mountains well hidden in a gorge next to Dudh Kosi River with few nice lovely lodges for overnight stop.  

Morning begins with short steep climb to a ridge, and then on gradual level open valley high above Dudh Kosi River, as walk continues past Luza a small settlement with some good lodges.
Walk continues for few hours then reaching close to overnight and lunch spot at Machhermo, before heading down enjoy views of Mt. Cho-Oyu towards north. A short descend within cool shade of few tree lines to Machhermo, a nice settlement with lodges for overnight. After lunch enjoy short walk to a hill for best views of surrounding peaks.


From Machhermo, morning walk to Gokyo close to its third the main lakes, starts with short climb, and then follow a nice lever path to Pangka, a small place with few huts and shades.

On leaving Pangka, walk leads to a rocky path then reaching an ablation valley, as route leads much higher than coming across Gokyo first lake, and then close to second lake, and then finally reaching our first major destination at Gokyo third lake. Which is called Dudh Pokhari or Gokyo Lake, all good lodges located close above the lake.

Afternoon after lunch enjoy grand views of Mt. Cho Oyo world’s 06th highest and Gyachung Kang above 7,000 m peaks with beautiful reflection on serene Gokyo Lake.

A rest day in Gokyo, with early morning hike of few hours to the top of Gokyo-Ri at 5,357 m high, almost the same height of Cho-La Pass. From Gokyo-Ri enjoy fantastic panorama of world’s four highest peaks with array of snow peaks. The view includes Everest, Lhotse, Cho-Oyu and Mt. Makalu, the view extends towards Gokyo valley with Ngozumba the longest glacier of Nepal Himalaya. After a tough morning hike to Gokyo-Ri, descend to Gokyo, rest of the day relax or take walk around the lake and enjoy the marvelous views.

A leisure morning walks on leaving the main lake of Gokyo and past 2nd and 1st lake to reach a small Yak herder settlement at Na. Continue to walk for a few hours to the end and eastern rim of Gokyo valley at Thagnak, as well the base of high Cho-La Pass for overnight stop, close to the bottom of Ngozumba glacier.

One of the highlights of the adventure to cross high Cho-La Pass, start early morning with a long steady climb carrying simple pack lunch for the day. As walk heads on a rocky path uphill in between rocks and boulders. Finally ending the long climb on reaching atop Cho-La, the pass marked with Buddhist prayer flags and rock cairn which makes a fine marker, especially in snow condition. Enjoy grand views of Cholatse, Nirekha and Taboche with Lobuche peaks and then a long descend to the base on the other side of Cho-La at Dzongla for an overnight stop. After a long hard day crossing over Cho-La Pass.

On leaving Dzongla, a short climb and then on main pleasant high trail to Lobuche for an overnight stop. Located on the corners of a wide valley with a view of Nuptse and Lobuche peaks, a small settlement with a number of good lodges for an overnight stop.

Today’s walks leads you to our main destination at Everest Base Camp and highlight of the journey, having early breakfast start the trek following a level path for short while, then a short steep climb to a small plateau. As walk continues on reaching a rocky path high above Khumbu glacier then reaching at Gorakshep, a small settlement with few nice lodges, situated on the bottom of Mt. Pumori and Kalapathar rocky hill. Having a short rest, trek continues heading east following a rocky path over boulders close to Khumbu glacier. Finally reaching at Everest Base Camp, located right beneath the towering south face of Mt. Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse peaks.

Enjoy the dramatic scenery enclosed by giant mountains with a close view of the tumbling Khumbu Ice Fall that feeds the glacier and river. During the Mountaineering expedition, the base camp is active with climbers, the whole place is lively with many camps of various nations on an expedition to Mt. Everest. After a wonderful experience head back to Gorakshep for an overnight stop, after a tough long day to Everest base camp.

Our last big adventure, start early morning and then a steep climb for two hours to reach on top Kalapathar hill with rubble of black rocks at the height of 5,643 meters. Feeling in high spirits on top Kalapathar, the highest spot of the adventure facing fantastic panorama of towering snow-mountain that surrounds the top facing closest views of Mt. Everest at a mere distance. After achieving all the highlights of the journey, return back to Gorakshep for breakfast and continue walk down to Thugla. From here descend to a flat valley of Pheriche afternoon time can be very windy, as walk progress then reaching at Pheriche a nice settlement with many good lodges and restaurants, where HRA (Himalayan Rescue Association) post is located, an ideal place for lunch and overnight stop around this beautiful valley with close views of Taboche and Ama Dablam peaks.

Today a short walk to scenic and beautiful Tengboche, morning from Pheriche walk to the end of the valley with short downhill to a river. After crossing a bridge and then short climb to a high ridge. From here a long descend to Pangboche village.

From here onwards back into green vegetation and tall tree lines, as morning walk leads down to a bridge, with few hour climb to Tengboche Monastery for overnight stop. 

A beautiful spot surrounded by high snow peaks with grand views of Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam amidst lovely green forest. At Tengboche enjoy tour of impressive monastery interior adorned with bright colorful religious paintings and great idols of Buddha with famous gurus and saints. 


From Tengboche enjoy the fresh morning panorama of snow range peaks, and then head  downhill to Imjatse River, and then climb for short while past Lobesa and Sanasa villages and then on wide winding path to Kyang-Jima for possible lunch stop, and then carry on walking

on scenic trail to Namche bazaar for overnight stop. Afternoon free to browse around the streets and lanes of Namche Bazaar.

Today the last day trek of the journey, start the morning walk on long downhill to Dudh Kosi River then head towards Jorsalle after crossing a bridge a short steep climb to the entrance and exit point of Sagarmatha National Park. From here a short walk to Monjo village as walk continues crossing a long bridge, and then following a good trail to Phakding. 

From Phakding another few hours walk to Lukla, as trek leads through nice villages of Ghat and Choplung. After a good day walk climb for an hour to enter the main gate of Lukla town, and then walk to your lodge for last overnight stop around Khumbu and Everest region, here with time to explore Lukla town of great interest.

Having early breakfast, short walk to Lukla or Tenzing & Hillary airport, as the plane arrives from Lukla, and then board in a small aircraft for short scenic flight to Kathmandu facing stunning panorama of Himalayan peaks and landscapes of rolling green hills and valley. On reaching at Kathmandu airport, a short drive back into city life of Kathmandu. After checking in to your hotel rooms, rest of the day free at leisure.  

Reserved this free day as contingency in case of flight delay and cancellation at Lukla or in the beginning of the trek flying from Kathmandu. This is normal can happen sometimes due to bad weather condition, it is always wise to have a spare day. If all goes well reaching Kathmandu on time, enjoy the free day for individual activities or join in for exciting tour to Patan and Bhaktapur a beautiful cities and worth a visit.

Last day in Kathmandu, depart from the hotel as per your international flight time our staff and guide will transfer you for the short drive to the airport for final departure from Nepal, after a great wonderful experience with memorable adventure on Gokyo Valley & Everest Base Camp Trekking via Cho-La Pass.
